Sports Trivia Questions and Answers: 120 Questions for Game Night (Easy to Hard, NFL to the Olympics)

120 sports trivia questions and answers sorted by sport and difficulty: NFL, NBA, MLB, soccer, Olympics, plus a numbers round and printable sheets.

Download the printable pack (PDF)4 sheets, US Letter and A4 friendly, with answers

Sports trivia has a problem most trivia does not: the room is split. One friend knows the rushing leader of every season since 1985, another has watched exactly one Super Bowl, for the halftime show. Hand them the same hard question and one of them gets bored while the other gets smug. The fix is not easier questions, it is a better mix.

This list has 120 sports trivia questions and answers built for exactly that room. There is an easy round anyone can play, rounds for the NFL, the NBA, MLB and soccer, a round for the Olympics, tennis, golf and hockey, a hard round for the know-it-all, and a numbers round where close enough still loses. Two rounds come as printable sheets, and every answer is a settled fact rather than a record that might fall next season.

How to run a sports trivia night

Six friends on a sofa and on the floor of a living room, holding their phones up like game buzzers and laughing, with game-day snacks and a football on the rug
Game day is the easiest day to get people to play: they are already on the sofa.

The best sports trivia nights feel like a halftime show, not an exam. Keep rounds short, mix the sports, and let people play in teams so the casual fans have someone to lean on. For mixed rounds beyond sports, see our general knowledge questions and funny trivia questions.

  1. 1Split into teams of two to four. Put one real sports fan in each team if you can.
  2. 2Play rounds of 10 questions. Mix at least two sports in each round, even if the round has a theme.
  3. 3Read each question twice, then give teams 20 seconds to write an answer. No phones on the table.
  4. 4Swap answer sheets between teams for marking. Nobody argues harder than a team marking a rival.
  5. 5One point per correct answer, two for the hard round. Read the scores out after every round, not just at the end.

The golden rule of sports trivia

Never ask about a current record or "the most recent winner" unless you checked it that morning. Records fall, rosters change and your trivia sheet from last season will quietly be wrong. Every question in this article uses a fact that cannot change: who won in a given year, what a rule says, how a field is measured.

Father against daughter, porch rules: loser carries the snacks in.

Soccer and World Cup trivia questions

The 2026 World Cup was played in the United States, Canada and Mexico, so soccer questions land better in an American living room than they did a few years ago. The questions below stick to finals and firsts that will not change.

  • Which country won the first World Cup in 1930? Uruguay.
  • Which three countries hosted the 2026 World Cup? The United States, Canada and Mexico.

  • Which city will host the 2028 Summer Olympics? Los Angeles.

The best trivia question is the one where the whole room groans "I knew that" one second after the answer is read.

For the final round, or for the one friend who got every answer so far. These questions reward people who remember sports history, not just the highlights. Count them double.

Start it on the TV, the rest is in your pocket

Trivia night always needs someone to read the questions, run the clock and keep score, and that person does not get to play. Buzzin moves that job onto the TV you already watch the game on. The game starts in the smart TV's browser, on a Chromecast or a laptop over HDMI, or through the BuzzinTV app on LG TVs with webOS 22 or newer, Philips TVs with Titan OS, Android TV, Google TV and Amazon Fire TV. Everyone scans a QR code on the screen and their phone becomes a buzzer. Nobody installs anything or makes an account. Which setup works on your TV is covered step by step in smart TV party games with phones.

TV Show is a quiz with a voiced host: the question and four answers on the big screen, and the fastest correct tap on a phone scores. It fits nicely into halftime or after the final whistle, when the room still wants to compete. For more question rounds, the Halloween trivia questions and answers work for October, and our guide to party games for large groups covers the nights with a crowd.

Frequently asked questions

What are some good sports trivia questions?

Good sports trivia questions have answers that cannot change: which team won Super Bowl I (the Green Bay Packers), how many rings are on the Olympic flag (five), or how far it is between the bases (90 feet). Mix easy rule questions with a few history questions, and avoid current records that may have been broken since you wrote the list.

What are easy sports trivia questions for kids?

Kids do best with questions about rules and equipment they have seen: how many players are on a soccer team (11), which sport uses a shuttlecock (badminton) or what a perfect bowling score is (300). Avoid names and years with younger kids, and let them play in teams with an adult.

How many questions should a sports trivia night have?

Plan four to six rounds of 10 questions, about 40 to 60 questions in total. That takes roughly an hour with scoring and a break. End with a harder round worth double points so the teams in last place still have a chance.

What is the hardest sports trivia question?

The hardest questions ask about history that highlight reels skip, like which team lost four Super Bowls in a row (the Buffalo Bills) or which pitcher has the most career wins (Cy Young, with 511). A good hard question still has an answer people recognize once they hear it.

Can you play sports trivia on a TV with phones?

Yes. With a quiz game like TV Show on Buzzin, the TV shows the questions and each player answers on their own phone after scanning a QR code, so nobody needs a controller. The game keeps score automatically, which means the host plays too.
